WE LOVE FUNDAYS presents guest mix from Derek McNee & Woody (Digital Groove Records) 24th Feb 2015 / 22:00-00:00 gmt

This Week on the We Love Fundays Show… The guys have a guest mix from Digital Groove Records Derek McNee & Woody..

Derek McNee….. Whether its Space in Ibiza, Ministry of Sound in London, The Arches in Glasgow or just a small club with 50 people in it Digital:Groove Records head honcho Derek McNee has only one objective…..”make sure everybody’s enjoying themselves and dancing to the tracks I’m lucky enough to play for THEM” Thats always been his theory about being a DJ, its always all about the crowd.

Heavily influenced by the likes of Erick Morillo, MAW, David Morales, Carl Cox and Roger Sanchez his versatility and personality comes out in his sets which could be deep and underground or vocal and uplifting but it will be delivered with enthusiasm and energy and the crowd respond to him.

With over 10 years now behind him as a DJ, 2014 saw him move into running his own record label and producing under the name “MONKK’ as well as keeping up appearances behind the decks so things are very busy for him and 2015 is looking like being his biggest year to date.

Woody…. As he is fondly known, has in the past 10 years risen to be one of the main players on the Glasgow DJing circuit. Formerly a club PR, Woody is an avid clubber and it was his love of house music that motivated him to start playing and creating the music he so enjoyed partying to. Woody has been the main resident at some of Glasgow’s busiest weekly club nights which includes The legendary Liquid Cool Soundsystem which was Glasgow’s second longest running house night.

After a successful 2009, where he spent much of his summer midweek’s on the island of Ibiza, rocking the legendary Pukka Up boat parties and Es Paradis, 2010 has shaped up to be his best year yet!

In addition to DJing at every main club in Glasgow, Woody has performed regularly at quite a few top venues in England too, DJing with some of dance music’s biggest names. DJs such as Yousef, Sensu, Simon Dunmore, DJ Spen, Mark Knight and Dennis Ferrer have been witness to the Woody magic, a who’s-who list that will grow extensively as Woody’s career continues to develop.

Late 2011 saw Woody having to take a back seat to dj’n due to illness but the offers for gigs still came rolling in. In late 2012 saw Woody take to the decks in the infamous Sub Club in Glasgow. More top events came along with another warm up set for Yousef and the biggest one of came when he went back to back with Glasgow dj Illyus in a warm up set for the one and only Pete Tong.

Woody is also A&R Manager at Digital Groove Records, lending his eyes and ears for worldwide talent and picking the best music to release on the ever growing label. A role that he has really taken to heart and is enjoying watching the catalogue of great music getting bigger and bigger

The future holds so many things for Woody in both roles and you won’t have to look far to find him behind the decks somewhere near you.

A lot of tracks these days are designed for the new technology with short intro’s etc…. It would be a nightmare on vinyl with some of todays best tracks he uses all formats Vinyl Cd’s and Traktor. Musical styles house minimal tech and techno. The mix tonight is housey and has some commercial elements thrown in for good measure .Oh… and he has warmed up for Brandon Block and Simon Paul (lost witness) was on the same bill that night

Staying faithful to the original melody, the classic sounds were given a modern uplift that landed this monster track a top 20 Beatport position and a chart topping #1 on Audio Jelly.

James has been no stranger to the Beatport Trance top 100. March 2012 saw his first 4 track EP released on Dash Berlin’s imprint of Armada, ‘Aropa Records’, titled ‘Signify’. Following that, the emotionally charged ‘Overthrow’ was picked up by Arisa Audio – a huge uplifting track with an epic orchestral breakdown. It was subsequently remixed by one of the world’s most respected producers, Protoculture, and was chosen to feature on Armin Van Buuren’s ‘A State of Trance 2012’ CD

You can see why Armin has described James as “arguably one of the most requested remixers in the scene right now”. James has crafted his signature touches on labels such as Subculture, Captivating Sounds, Mental Asylum Records and Alter Ego Records. More recently, James has remixed one of the most memorable Trance tracks of all time for official release – Armin Van Buuren – Communication.

As a DJ, James doesn’t rest on his laurels. Expect high intensity sets, full of dance floor driven music, world exclusive tracks, seamless mash ups, track edits and lots of energy behind the decks. This isn’t just another 60 minute set; it’s a performance full of emotion and sentiment taking you on a journey of electronic sounds. Already DJing all over the world, both as a supporting and a head line artist, it won’t be long before James is hosting shows outright.

Staying faithful to the sounds that Trance was born from, his stunning modern touches have continued to gain support from artists and fans from every corner of the globe – each release more and more anticipated than its predecessor. With that in mind, James Dymond is soon to become a major player in Trance scene throughout the world.

Iain Boney Clark’s House Matters is delighted to bring you ‘My Favourite Mix’ feat. Tam Brown

Tam started djing around 1974 at his local youth club in moffat playing mostly soul 45’s and that is probably were he got the djing bug. He then moved back to Dumfries in 1978 were he started working in an independent record shop which also ran all the mobile discos as they were called then and he also had the residency for the first disco/club in the town which he played in 7 nights a week, as well as a number of venues throughout the south west of Scotland. In the late eighties Tam found himself getting more involved with the rave/dance culture which was kicking off big time in Scotland, Tam and his friends would organise and dj. At secret rave parties in very remote areas in the countryside. As the rave scene faded away Tam found himself djing at club nights all over the uk playing more soulful house and doing his own nights in Dumfries. Due to work commitments in 2003 Tam decided to have a break from the djing side of things as he was working away a lot, then about 5 years ago Tam started going to the Dumfries soul nights which then kicked off his djing bug again, since the early days Tam always loved northern soul & motown and also 70’s soul music, so he decided to start playing the music that he loved as a kid. So as you can see Tam Brown a.k.a. dj.teebee is a soul boy at heart who loves his soul music, from the 60’s to the present day, it’s soul all the way, Tam will also be DJ’ing at SSW5 at Stanxix holiday park in Silloth on the 5/6/&7th June 2015
