TRAXSOURCE LIVE presents FRANKY RIZARDO /// JANUARY 2016 on GROOVE CITY RADIO

TRAXSOURCE LIVE PRESENTS /// FRANKY RIZARDO

TUNE IN VIA – http://tunein.com/radio/Groove-City-Radio-s192725/

Franky Rizardo’s hugely refreshing approach to house music has been paying dividends in a big way. Having established himself as one of the biggest draws in Holland’s house music circuit with a style that works as well on big stages as it does in sweaty clubs, he’s now rapidly expanding his horizons across the world.
.
Releases on OFF, Defected and Spinnin’ demonstrate an increasingly strong production career, while his Flow radio show and events are fast becoming a major part of the house music landscape across the world.
.
“I think that playing a lot of different stages has taught me how to work with a large diversity of crowd, rather than doing one trick every show. I don’t want to be a one-trick pony. I just want to arrive and do my set specifically for that night.” It speaks volumes about his appeal and ambition that he’s as at home playing with long-time friend Hardwell as he is playing alongside house music legends like MK and Dennis Ferrer.
.
A decision to dedicate himself to the modern deep house sound in recent times stemmed from a desire to stop his style from snowballing to the OTT builds and drops that his main stage and big room performances were pushing him towards.
.
“I was performing on the big stages and I thought, I’m really enjoying the big crowd, but I’m really not enjoying being pressured towards a certain sound. So I thought to myself – how can I bring my house sound to these crowds?”Indeed, his Flow radio show on Holland’s national station SLAM!FM was one of the first in the country to push the deep house sound, slotting him in between SanderVan Doorn and Nicky Romero’s shows. Its success has now spawned a stage at festivals including Dance Valley and Free Your Min, and Franky has big plans for his burgeoning brand. “We ave a lot of interest from a lot of big festivals, an we now have the radio show  n Sirius XM in the US, and I’m really working together with the whole team to make this all happen. We are also creating a talent pool who will join Flow including an agency and a label.”
.
Speaking of new music, things are looking incredibly healthy for Franky on the production front too. Since his OFF Recordings EP hit Beatport’s Deep House Top 25, he’s been working manically on a slew of new tracks – including four new tracks and 6 new remixes for his Deep Down & Defected compilation. He makes snappy house music, full of character and attitude and wrapped up in crisp, punchy production. His tracks find the perfect balance between underground groove and accessible hook, serving as a neat microcosm of his position in the DJing spectrum.
.
“I think house is in a really healthy place” he says when probed on his overview of the scene at large. “The whole house sound is coming back. It creates a lot of room for producers to really make the music they love, and I see that more and more with my colleagues.”It’s a relief to hear that artists like Rizardo are committed to sticking to what they’re passionate about. If mainstream success follows, then so be it; but he’s not going to chase it at the cost of his integrity. An insanely busy DJing schedule already sees him playing up to 70 gigs in the space of two months, covering a huge range of parties and venues. Frequent gigs in Ibiza (Hardwell asked Franky to play his nights at Ushuaia in recognition of house coming back into the spotlight) and closing the Defected stage at WEAREFSTVL are cited amongst his highlights. This bustling diary is testament to the passion and commitment he pours into his sets. For years he’s been re-editing other artists’ tracks to give himself a slew of exclusive material, and his love for his craft when he’s behind the decks is clear for all to see. With such a strong work ethic and a desire to broaden his scope across the world, you get the feeling that his aims for global domination are very much within his grasp. As is clear from his decision to veer away from the more hyperbolic sounds of his contemporaries though, he won’t be compromising his ethos to do so.

In the beginning…

Born & bred in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Stevie’s been rocking the decks since the day he raided his dad’s record collection and started messing around with an old Alba hi fi! From being a checkout assistant in the local super market at 18 he invested in a set of Soundlab beltdrives AKA ‘Decks’ from back in day!

Another few shifts pushing trolleys and a student loan later a set of the hallowed Technics 1210s were proudly bought and a career path was choosen! 23rd Precinct Records and HMV we’re his classroom of choice.
By day he squeezed in a degree in Economics and Post Grad in Ecommerce, by night he chased his dream to become a DJ.

The first record he bought was Kayashi Furyo on Additive records.

Launching The DJ Career

Starting out by playing in local bars and clubs, covering the gigs from the bottom of the ‘dj food chain’ playing 70’s and 80’s music at birthday parties. He was simply fulfilling his need to get out and play music. In the long run it proved invaluable. After sending off countless mix-tapes he got his first break playing at the under 18’s at the Viper club in Bellshill and within weeks he was spinning the tunes at the over’s too. It was evident his career had began to gather momentum when he was approached to play on the Xposure Magazine British club tour which led on to playing in front of 5000 people at the Kritivibes festival in Crete, Greece with Dutch dance company Euro Music Events. Soon after that he began an 8 year residency at the legendary Fubar in Stirling.

Residences

City Falkirk, City Edinburgh, Karbon Glasgow, Common Glasgow, Centrepoint Coatbridge, Megabar/Hype Motherwell, Hamilton Palace, Essence Coatbridge, Rosies Falkirk, The Social Glasgow, and Level 2 Coatbridge.

Guest Venues

Guesting the length and breadth of the UK playing T in the Park, the Arches for both Colours and Inside Out, Hed Kandi, Cream and not forgetting the legendary M8 Christmas parties at the Tunnel.

to name drop a few….

Throughout his time he has shared the decks with
Fedde Le Grand, Grant Nelson, Danny Rampling, Greame Park, Eddie Halliwell, Tiesto, K Klass, Yousef, Judge Jules,
Bart B More, Bodyrox, Funkagenda and Mark Knight to name but a few and Calvin Harris has even warmed up for him!

Music style

Reflects his eclectic influences – from his soulful house roots all the way through to the chunkier club beats that he’s known for. He’ll play whatever it takes to get the crowd going – be it the cooler unpretentious house music he loves, the cutting edge main room house he fires out with ease, or the tougher tribal techy tip he likes to take us on when the time is right. Wherever he plays, you can always guarantee plenty of energy and passion behind the decks, a distinctive musical style that whips the crowd into a frenzy, loads of crowd interaction and no doubt the odd chant of “Stevie, Stevie, Stevie F****n Lennon!”

Promoter

DJ-ing has always been his first love but as his events continue to grow in success and popularity he finds himself juggling his career as a DJ with that of a promoter too but still enjoying it nonetheless.

Stereofunk

Stevie, one half of Kelman & Lennon! The dynamic DJ duo & the brains behind Stereofunk, one of Scotland’s coolest club brands and music festivals. What began as overnight parties in castles and mansions across the land has now blossomed into an annual music festival at Strathclyde Park for over 2000 people, showcasing over 70 of the best Scottish DJs, 15 live bands and a sprinkling of the worlds best DJs. Stereofunk ‘the brand’ is continually growing year after year and Stevie is determined to keep fuelling its growth by continuing to build the brand by “taking the best people to the best places to have the best parties”.

Parklife

Stevie also joined forces with industry heavyweights GoodGreef and Inside Out in 2008 to form one of Scotland’s biggest outdoor dance events Parklife, raising his and the profile of Stereofunk once more. Over 7000 people attended to see a star studded line up of over 40 of the world’s best DJs. Parklife has now firmly established itself in the Scottish Festival calendar.

Radio DJ

After having had many live mixes aired on radio stations such as Clyde 1 and XFM, Stevie made his debut as a radio presenter in the summer of 2010 with his own radio show the “Stereofunk Show” on L107. With the peak time Saturday night show reaching over 200,000 listeners across Lanarkshire it served as a great platform to play his tunes to the masses, not just in the clubs but in their living rooms and in their cars too.

Giving something back…

Always keen to pass on his DJ knowledge to the younger generation, Stevie regularly organises DJ workshops for Reeltime Music in schools, clubs and youth groups in his local area of Lanarkshire.

Producer

Currently working hard in the studio producing house music that will no doubt be filling the nation’s dancefloors in the future. With releases on the horizon under Kelman & Lennon, this is sure to be another interesting chapter of his career to come. Watch out for “Love 4 Sale (Kelman & Lennon mix)”, “Stereofunk present Bucky’s Anthem” and the “Kelman & Lennon , The Stereofunk Shuffle”

Where you can hear Stevie now…
Thu – Fubar
Fri – Level 2 Coatbridge
Sat – The Torrance East Kilbride
Sunday – Liquid Cool Soundsystem at Common Glasgow’s renouned & longest running house night.
This residency suits his own style perfectly and here he can be seen playing the very latest in upfront house with a few old classics along the way.
