Monday 30th March 2015 – SBF Guest Mix & Fresh Paul Exclusive First Play/ DVSTY Exclusive Play

This week on BNRY sessions we have a massive exclusive first play sent from London label Hear Other Sounds. Glasgow based producer Fresh Paul has put together a 3 track EP entitled “Blue Knuckle” for his debut release on the label. He has gained interest from other DJ’s such as Mr Mitch and Strict Face. As well as many great reviews from magazines and blogs such as Mixmag, DJmag and
The 3 tracks take on the grime sound whilst genre bending with eclectic synth sounds and intricate beats and patterns. Very refreshing for the listener of similar genres.

Dvsty another Glasgow producer who we have been keeping and eye on has been putting out tracks for sometime as well as many Guest mixes. Although with the track “Custom” we feel this could be his year, his take on the bass heavy genre where his mixing skills are tight and leave no room for error. Its a track you hear once and leaves you wanting more. Luckily we should be getting blessed with a EP from this artist in the near future.

Big news also for BNRY sessions, keeping it a busy show. We have the Jersey Club Producer/Remixer/DJ SBF who hails from Piscataway, Jersey, USA. He has been making a name for himself with loads of remixes including popular tracks such as Kanye West All Day, Chris Brown x Tyga B*tches N Marijuana as well as the great Lido song Money. He has gained alot of following through constant exposure from blogs as well as youtube channels such as ClubJersey as well as the WhenIsNow Collective. His take on the Jersey genre is fantastic and a mix you will not want to miss.

Tune in Monday 30th of March 6pm to 8pm to catch these very exciting exclusive first plays as well as a guest mix which will open you eyes to a new genre.

THE INVERSION SHOW presents Guest mix from Format: B / Thursday 19th March 2015 / 18:00 – 20:00 gmt

Format:B are Franziskus and Jakob. Jakob is a Berliner, from Kreuzberg to be exact. As all good parents do, his wanted him to play an instrument. After years of successfully dodging music lessons and his parents wishes, he finally at the subtle age of 15 decided that he desperately needed a bass guitar, which then
through diligent practice manoeuvred him from hardcore bands to funk and jazz bands. But suddenly, there was a small problem: he liked Techno parties much better than rock concerts. So, as one does, he began buying the odd techno maxi here and there until one day little Jakob thought to himself: Why heck, I can do that too! So off he went and bought himself an overpriced Atari St40 and a cheap synthesizer, only to realize that oops those guys from Detroit really do know what theyre doing and that it wasnt that easy after all. Well, that is basically where Jacobs ambitiously planned out life suddenly took a screeching of the wheels turn in another direction.

Franziskus is from Erfurt, a small and rural part of Germanys quite rough and wild East, which didnt stop him from starting piano lessons at the innocent age of 6. His musical interests took him from the usual suspects like Michael Jackson and The Pet Shop Boys through to Hardcore (obviously not on the piano). But then one day, or night to be exact similar to Jakob, all was to suddenly change.. A fortuitous night out at the legendary EWerk in 1993, made this young mans heartbeat skip from Chopin over to a 4/4 beat where it was to remain, probably forever. Three years later Franziskus took up residency at the infamous Sub ground Lighthouse After hour, resulting in numerous further bookings. The paths of these two young men crossed whilst they were both studying to be sound engineers. Seeing as all the other students in there year were long haired Metal heads it was only a matter of time until their paths crossed. So, after spending a few long Berlin party nights together they decided to see if they could start a project together. And so the story ends or better yet, begins with Format:B.

After they were banging numerous hit-singles like “Vivian Wheeler”, “Edding 850” and many others, they decided to found there own label Formatik Records in August 2009. In addition to that, they build up a new studio in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg to work on their second Album called “Restless”. Meanwhile they catched up a lot of brilliant Techno artists like Sébastien Léger, Hugo and Super Flu to work with. Super Flu were remixing the track “Gospel” – an outstanding Club hit, which finally brought Formatik Records to the ears of the world. As a consequence of their great success, Jakob and Franziskus were “forced” to play live on the whole planet. So they toured to Australia, Asia, USA and discovered their biggest fan-base in South America. In Berlin they found the Watergate Club as the best place to celebrate their own label nights.

Charity Soul –

Charity Soul is all about enjoying Soul Music whilst raising money for cancer stem cell research.

About the Research ……
The scientists in this unit are working in the area of cancer stem cells. This is a relatively new and exciting area of research. There are labs all over the world working on different cancer stem cells in different cancer types. Knowledge obtained in one cancer can be useful in another cancer types. Cancer stem cells are considered as the root of the cancer and are not susceptible to current chemotherapy and radiotherapy. During the last ten years Prof Maitland’s team has isolated and characterized these cells and now the aim of the research is focused on what makes these cells different, how to sensitise them to current treatments as well as developing new treatments. A few years ago, the YCR Cancer Research Unit was recognised internationally as the best research group in its field, after the Prof Maitland and colleagues found “the root” of prostate cancer and revolutionised research methodology. Prof Maitland says ‘existing therapies for treating prostate cancer attack the ‘leaves’ rather than the ‘root,’ making it likely for many men that the disease will recur after primary treatment such as radiotherapy. Prof Maitland’s team at the Yorkshire Cancer Research (YCR) Unit have discovered how to isolate the tumour stem cells, which make up one in 1,000 of cancer cells. These stem cells can be likened to the root of prostate cancer.

“After losing a very close friend to cancer I decided to ask friends and promoters in the Northern Soul circles to help. My question was simple…
‘Would you support me if a charity based on our love of Northern Soul was created to raise money for frontline Cancer Research?’
They all answered YES and Charity Soul was born.
The initial idea has evolved into something very special and is now increasing with support from promoters, DJ’s and of course the many lovers of Northern Soul who have attended our events. Your help and support can help us send money direct to the “coalface” of the frontline research to fight the battle against cancer.”
Terry Hopkinson
After extensive research we identified acclaimed Professor, Norman Maitland who is conducting pioneering research into prostate cancer at York University. After meeting Professor Maitland and his team at York University we decided this was the project “Charity Soul” will be supporting. We have ensured, every pound of our donations received will be added to Professor Maitland`s budget, thus helping to support the ongoing pioneering research in York.

“Current treatments for prostate cancer are like using a weed killer that kills the leaves but the weed can grow back. What we are doing is the same as ‘Roundup’, kill the cancer at the roots and then we kill the leaves then the cancer can’t grow back””.
